MILDENHALL eventer Tim Price is thrilled it will finally be his turn to represent his country at a major competition this summer.

The 32-year-old, based at Mere Farm with wife and fellow Kiwi international Jonelle, who helped the New Zealand team to bronze at the 2012 Olympics, has been picked as part of his country’s quartet for this year’s World Equestrian Games in Normandy, which begin in August.

Price has been selected to ride Wesko, on who he claimed his first-ever four-star victory at Luhmühlen last month, and will team-up with fellow Wiltshire-based stars Andrew Nicholson and Sir Mark Todd, as well as Jock Paget.

Jonelle has been selected as first reserve on Classic Moet, with Paget’s inclusion yet to be rubber-stamped by an impending FEI tribunal ruling after his horse Clifton Promise tested positive for a banned substance last year.

“The World Games is the real big thing this summer and getting selected means a lot – for New Zealand, our main events are the Olympics and the World Games and this will be my debut,” said the Kiwi ace.

“I’m always proud of Jonelle when she’s goes away to compete in a big event but it will be nice to go there to ride for once, rather than just to carry buckets of water.

“I’m really excited and looking forward to it a lot.”

This week, Price turns his attention to Barbury, where he will run Ringwood Sky Boy, the ride on which he secured a top-ten finish at Badminton in May, in the top three-star section A class.

He said: “Barbury’s always a great event – it really is the jewel in the crown for Marlborough.

“I love competing there because it’s so nice to have a great local event and a lot of the top riders bring their best horses, so if you do well, you know it’s a big achievement.

“I took Ringwood Sky Boy to Salperton (on June 21) and we finished fifth, so I think he has a good chance of being competitive.”
