PETE Hickerton’s half-century wasn’t enough to prevent Warminster slipping to a disappointing 87-run loss at the hands of county rivals Biddestone last weekend.

A sizeable knock from batsman Dwaine Perry and an effective bowling display from Chris Baker saw Biddestone comfortably cruise past Tom Davie’s men at Cuttle Lane.

Warminster put Biddestone in to bat first and had the hosts in trouble early on as the wickets of skipper Mitchell and Niel Bredenkamp fell for just six runs.

But Perry steadied the ship as he smacked ten fours on his way to a knock of 80, with Aled Evans (30 not out), Andy Flynn (24) and Liam Boulton (23) all contributing.

Warminster’s Nick Hembury did his best to stem the tide as he took 3-48 but the home side posted 211-7.

Biddestone then made early progress with the ball, dismissing Davie, Miikee Selmes and Desmond Kruger for just 30 runs.

The visitors’ Baker did the damage with the ball as he ended the afternoon with figures of 4-30, while Naeem Khan claimed 3-40.

Hickerton hit 54 for Warminster but his knock failed to inspire a fightback as Warminster were skittled for 124 in the 38th over.

Meanwhile, Westbury were unable to pull off an upset as they were beaten by six wickets at the hands of title-chasers Lechlade.

Alex Senneck’s men opted to bat first after winning the toss and got off to a positive start thanks to Robert Hislop’s 69 and Simon Rose’s knock of 28.

But after losing their fourth wicket for 118 runs, the visitors were cut down to size, with Lechlade’s Paul Godding taking 4-24 as they were dismissed for 166 halfway through the 48th over.

Jacques Prinsloo attempted to stem the tide of the Lechlade run chase with two wickets but former Westbury captain Joe Breet made 64 ,while Arran Dickinson weighed in with 38 as the league leaders reached 167-4 early in the 44th over.

Westbury go to Tewkesbury tomorrow.
