TROWBRIDGE look set to complete the season without a recognised captain after skipper Alex Hart stepped away from the club.

Hart, who is in his second spell after spending the 2011 season with Potterne, says that the discipline of the Trowbridge players led to him opting to stand down as captain.

Hart’s work commitments have played havoc with his availability this summer and he also believes that vice-captain Mikey Reynolds didn’t receive the respect he deserved during the departed skipper’s absence.

“I’ve been with the club since 2009, apart from year I spent with Potterne, and most of that time has been with Trowbridge. I played in the game against Marlborough (on July 12) but I knew that would be my last game for Trowbridge,” said Hart.

“I work as a manager in retail and that means I’ve got to work on Saturdays sometimes, at the end of the day, work pays the bills and has to come first.

“I explained the situation to the players at the start of the season and they didn’t take that out. They wanted me to be captain.

“I’ve got a lot of respect for the chairman (Brian Scrine) but there are a few senior players that seem to like arguing when it comes to fielding plans, bowling line-ups and things like that. Even if I did all the work needed when I was away, from what I’m told, some people didn’t go along with what my vice-captain Mikey Reynolds told them to do.

“As I understand it, there isn’t a replacement captain and there are three players who are going to take turns until the end of the season.

“I haven’t thought about joining another club yet because it wouldn’t be right to do it midway through the season.”

Trowbridge slipped to a miserable eight-wicket defeat at the hands of bottom-of-the-table Devizes last weekend.

Devizes’ Mark Banham took 4-18 whilst Tom Grant and Tim Saye also chipped in with two wickets apiece as the visitors crumbled for just 65 in 32 overs.

The home side’s Joe Wookey then stepped up and hit an unbeaten 37 to guide his team to 68-2, and just their second victory of the season, in just over 21 overs.
