BOX swimmer Stephanie Millward claimed gold in her first event at the IPC European Championships in Eindhoven this morning.
Five-time London 2012 Paralympic medallist Millward, 32, clocked 4:41.99 to win the S9 400m freestyle, ahead of compatriot Amy Marren (4:47.66) and Spain's Nuria Marques Soto (5:01.95).
The time was just outside the European record of 4:40.01 that Millward set at London 2012, but was the perfect start to her week.
Millward said: “I enjoyed swimming that. It was really quite easy. It was a perfect race for the first race so very good. My PB is the European record of 4:40 and I just went a 4:41 which is not too bad for a 400.
“I have the 100m backstroke on Saturday which I am really looking forward to after that swim.”
