MELKSHAM Town raced to the top of the Toolstation League Premier Division after a comprehensive victory at Bridport on the opening day of the season.

Darren Perrin’s side returned from Dorset with all three points last Saturday after goals from Jamie Broom, Mike Perrott and Nick Ridout handed them a 3-0 win.

Elsewhere, there was disappointment for Bradford Town as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Brislington, with Mark Wall’s second half goal failing to spark a comeback from the Trowbridge Road side.

In the First Division, Nick Holton, Aaron Ledgister and Ryan Tyrell netted as Corsham Town won 3-0 at Oldland Abbotonians whilst Calne Town picked up a point at Roman Glass St George, with Neurin Jones on target for the Lilywhites.

Mark Robinson’s goal wasn’t enough for Chippenham Park to avoid slipping to a 2-1 loss at Wincanton Town whilst Devizes Town also suffered an opening day defeat as they were beaten 1-0 at home by Chard Town.

Matt Mead and Mark Young scored for Westbury United but Adam Collington’s men were beaten 3-2 by Welton Rovers at Meadow Lane whilst Warminster Town lost 3-0 at Wells City.

In the Sydenhams League Division One, Pewsey Vale began life under new boss Nick Maggs with all three points last weekend.

Tom Whitham, Warren Macdonald and Tom Ballard were all on target as Vale beat East Cowes Victoria 3-0.

But Wootton Bassett Town had a season-opener to forget as they were thrashed 6-1 by Binfield in the Hellenic League Premier Division, with Nathan Gambling grabbing Bassett’s consolation goal from the penalty spot.
