BATH skills coach Darren Edwards believes the club's 'near misses' last season have made them hungrier for trophy success in the forthcoming season.

The former Wales U20 and Dragons head coach joined the club this summer in the wake of a 2013-14 campaign that saw Bath narrowly miss out an Aviva Premiership play-off place before losing out to Northampton Saints in the final of the Amlin Challenge Cup.

Edwards said: "It's been apparent from day one that they (the squad) are very ambitious and they want to achieve.

Where that takes us this season, we will have to wait and see.

“I was fortunate to catch the end of last season and it was important that they took those steps.”

Bath host Welsh region the Scarlets at the Rec in a pre-season fixture tomorrow (3pm), prior to a trip to face Jersey next weekend.

Edwards added: “We’re nearly eight week into pre-season now and everybody has just been waiting for a game really.

“It’s still part of our physical progamme and it's an opportunity to see where we are in certain aspects of the game.”

New signings Luke Arscott, Nick Auterac, Grant Shiells and Henry Thomas are all set to feature against the Scarlets.
