CHIPPENHAM Town’s fine start to the season continued yesterday as the Bluebirds brushed aside an inexperienced Histon side to make it four wins from five matches.

With regular strikers Alan Griffin and Lee Phillips injured and Omar Simpson away at an athletics training camp, new-signing Darren Edwards was handed his Bluebirds debut up front.

The ex-Gloucester City striker wasted no time in getting onto the scoresheet as he notched his first Chippenham goal after just seven minutes.

His opener came courtesy of strike partner Luke Ballinger, who beat two Histon defenders out wide before playing the ball across to Edwards, whose masterful shot on the turn gave Stutes keeper Enol Ordonez no chance.

Six minutes later, the Bluebirds doubled their lead, with Edwards again influential.

A deep free-kick saw the Chippenham new-boy fail to win an aerial challenge but his presence ensured Histon failed to clear their lines and the loose ball was fired into the net by James Guthrie.

Midway through the half, Edwards played in Alex Ferguson, whose point-blank shot was saved by Ordonez.

The home side showed little going forward in the opening half, with Salim Relizani's scuffed shot their only effort on goal.

Edwards was again involved in a Bluebirds goal eight minutes after the break as his header forward saw Ferguson atone for his earlier miss with a first-time strike past Ordonez.

With eight minutes remaining, Histon did grab some consolation as Eugene Libertucci curled home a 25-yard free-kick into the top corner of the net.
