Trowbridge coach Steve Ojomoh insists that his side will not change their style of play as they embark on life in South West One East on Saturday.

After winning the Southern Counties South last term, the Doric Park men enjoyed a glory day at the home of English rugby to secure the RFU Intermediate Cup with a dramatic 22-19 success over Leek.

With the memories of Twickenham still fresh in their minds, Ojomoh will lead his side into battle at a higher level full of confidence.

And if playing in South West One East was not tantalising enough for Trowbridge, they also kick their campaign off with a visit from local rivals Chippenham, who themselves were relegated from National Three South West last term.

“We can’t wait,” Ojomoh said. “After finishing so late last season, it has all come around quickly and it is something that we are looking forward too. To have a local derby against Chippenham, at home, just adds to the interest of it all.

“We couldn’t play them last year because of our involvement in the cup.”

The former England and Bath front-rower says that while they will look to rely on their speed of thought once more, Trowbridge haven’t neglected their work in the breakdown.

“We wanted to increase our power this summer and we have spent a lot of time working on that,” he said.

“We have worked on our game at the breakdown but we also need to retain our speed of thought.

“There is no set plan for how we play. You have to look at the opposition, see where the opposition’s weaknesses are and play to that - you need more than a plan A.”

Ojomoh says that while he is still a few players short of where he would like to be prior to Saturday’s big kick-off, he is happy with what he has at his disposal.

He added: “You always want to add to what you’ve had when you have a successful year, but we’ve added a couple of players and lost a couple.

“What I want is to have two players for every position, have that strength in depth and not just making up the numbers.

“Until a fortnight ago, I was incredibly frustrated with how pre-season had gone - we had four cancellations.

“But we managed to pick up a late game so we have played three games in the space of a week and that has allowed me to look at different people and combinations.”
