THE surprise result of the day in the preliminary round of the Ken Clarke-sponsored WG Parr Trophy saw first division North Star FC defeat Premier Division FC Constitutional 1-0, thanks to a first-half goal from Karl Sharratt.

Sutton Benger, who suffered a 3-0 loss in last season’s final to The Castle, began this season’s tournament with a 4-0 victory at fellow Division One side FC Pig & Whistle, James Weston, Mark Bolton, Barry Fennell and Rhys Merriman netting, while Sean Meer missed from the spot for Pig.

Bradley Whitbread scored a perfect hat-trick in his Rowdy Cow Rowde side’s 6-3 victory over Old Road FC, Matt Lever, Alex Singh and Robbie Whyte also on target, while James House scored both for Old Road.

Pheasant FC came out on top in their battle with FC North Wiltshire, three goals in each half earning them a 6-0 success.

Richie Bolter scored twice and Shahram Hemmati, Ryan Jenkins, Matt King and substitute Pete Fisher also finding the net.

First division Potterne CFC booked their place in the next round with a 7-0 victory at home to second division outfit Melksham Forest Community Centre.

Neil Clark, making his first start of the season after suspension, scored five, Simon Drewitt and Wayne House the othe scorers.

Trowbridge Town Supporters Club and Corsham CC Wildcats booked their place in the next round without having to kick a ball.

The supporters’ club progressed after opponents North Star A withdrew from the league, while work commitments led to The Mallard FC giving up their game against the Wildcats.
