THE result was all that mattered for Corsham Town manager Trevor Rawlings as he watched his side return to winning ways with a 2-1 win over Radstock Town.

Town were looking to bounce back after suffering back-to-back defeats with a 3-0 loss at home to Wincanton Town last Wednesday followed by a 1-0 away defeat to Ashton & Backwell United on Saturday.

Goals from Matt Jenkins and Ben Moore in the first half gave the visiting Town side a 2-0 lead going into the half-time break.

However after their two recent defeats, when Radstock got a goal back in the second half the nerves kicked in but Town were able to hold on and claim all three points.

The win now puts them third in the Toolstation Western Football League First Division just four points off league leaders Wincanton Town.

Rawlings was happy with the win, if not the manner in which it was obtained, and now hopes his young side can start coming together as a team.

“We made hard work of it to be honest,” he said.

“We just had to try and get back to winning ways, the way in which we won was not important.

“Before the game I told the players we had to improve and try and put a performance in for 90 minutes.

“We went 2-0 up but in the second half we let them get back into it and we didn’t really step on and finish the game.

“On Saturday we played probably our best football and created about eight chances in the first 30 minutes but we didn’t score and paid the penalty towards the end.

“We have had an inconsistent start. We’re playing well in spells of games but not for the full game.

“We are a new side with a lot of new players and a young side so it might take a while to gel.

“I think soon we are going to tick and start playing the football I know we are capable of.”
