HOLT missed out in their bid for glory in the latter stages of the Men’s National Top Club competition at Royal Leamington Spa last weekend, writes DAVE EATON.

Champions of the Wiltshire, Dorset and Hampshire region, they were narrowly beaten 3-2 in disciplines by Camberley in the quarter-finals.

Holt lost the two singles disciplines, but Tony Keating and Keith Bailey won the pairs while Wayne Simmonds, Wayne Snook and Justin Davis were comfortable winners in the triples.

This left the game evenly poised at 2-2 and the shot scores tied at 61-61.

However, Don Gray’s rink went down by four shots as they lost 24-20 to give Camberley a 3-2 win and semi-final spot.

Holt enjoyed an incredible and successful 2014 campaign, dominating the men’s county championships and competitions finals winning six titles at Devizes.

Wayne Simmonds was involved in five of the victories and Holt finished as runners-up in the County Four Rink League play-offs to Wootton Bassett.

Score: Holt lost to Camberley 2-3 and on shots 81-85.
