FROME Town manager Adrian Foster would put his money on teenage winger Aaron Rodriguez rising through the leagues.

The 18-year-old, who followed his manager to Badgers Hill from Toolstation League Gillingham Town in the summer, saw the start of his Frome career decimated by a bout of glandular fever.

But Rodriguez returned to the fold in the Robins’ FA Cup win over Wimborne Town earlier this month before scoring in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Cambridge City and Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat at Truro City.

“He’s one of those lads that had a bit of an issue over whether he’d be good enough at this level but he’s proved how good he is already,” said Foster.

“He scored a great half-volley, straight into the top corner, on Tuesday and he caused their defence all sorts of problems.

“I don’t think that there’s anyone better at his age and he will play higher. I definitely think that he’s good enough to play professionally and hopefully if he has a good season with us, something can happen for him next summer.”

Rodriguez’s goal proved to be little more than a consolation in Cornwall, with Craig Duff pouncing on a rebound to put the hosts in front before firing home from the penalty spot with 62 minutes on the clock.

On Saturday, Rodriguez put Frome in front before Kris Miller dispatched a spot-kick after Ben Thomson had been felled in the area.

Cambridge’s Michael King set up a tense finale but Foster’s men held on to take all three points.

The Robins go looking to avoid an upset in the FA Cup when the make the trip to Sydenhams League Folland Sports tomorrow.

Boss Foster added: “I’ve had reports on them and even though they’re two leagues below us, it’s going to be tough.

“Beating us would be a big scalp for us and we need to make sure we go there and treat it like a league game if we want to get through.”

Jon Vance and Ricky Hulbert are injury doubts.
