CAPTAIN Callum Hurn gave the thumbs-up to his team’s performance as they claimed their third league win from four.

The home side secured a bonus point with a five-try display and Hurn said: “We got off to a good start and maintained our control for a good 70 minutes of the game.

“Our forwards and backs worked hard maintain the tempo and our defence was solid against a determined Fairford side.’’ Melksham’s Joe Hargreaves slotted a penalty in the first five minutes shortly followed by a pushover try with Jack Briggs the scorer.

Forwards and backs combined well to control the game and good footwork and handling skills were rewarded with a try for Hargreaves to close the half.

Jerry Flower appeared through the forwards to touch down under the posts in the second half, Hargreaves adding the extras.

The backs then struck to allow full-back Scott Simmons to score before winger Callum Gillard added the final try.

Man of the match Hargreaves converted before Fairford rallied with two tries.
