WILTSHIRE bowlers Graham Shadwell, Neil Smith and Russell Francis have been included in the England senior men's team for next March's International Series at Stanley IBC in County Durham.

Trowbridge player Shadwell, who bowls indoors for the Clarrie Dunbar club just over the border in Somerset, earns a recall to the team for the event from Thursday, March 12 to Saturday, March 14.

Dunbar clubmate Francis is included as a travelling reserve for the series, as is Smith from the Westlecot club in Swindon.

CLARRIE Dunbar and Christie Miller both claimed victories in their Wessex League Central Region matches last weekend, Clarrie’s victory maintaining their lead at the top of the table.

The 2009 and 2013 champions dominated their match against North Wilts and came in 40-shot winners (101-61), claiming all 16 points on offer.

They won on all four rinks, Terry Perkins and Andy Colebrooke being victorious at home, while Keith Bailey and Craig Doughty won in Chippenham.

Clarrie will next play on January 4, against Thornbury, who were defeated by Christie Miller.

Christie edged a tight tussle 88-84, taking 12 of the 16 points available, with rink honours being shared at two apiece.

MILLER edged out county rivals North Wilts in the Top Club competition, losing 10-6 to county rivals Christie Miller last Saturday evening.

In the ladies singles, North Wilts’ Janet Hardie was a 22-10 victor over Eileen Hawker, Miller’s Chris Easton winning the men’s singles 18-10 against Alan Greenland.

The mixed pairs and fours were close, Miller winning 18-17 and 19-18 respectively, while Wilts took the triples 28-6.

WILTSHIRE’S women claimed a 125-109 success over Somerset in their Atherley Trophy encounter on Sunday.

Rink honours were shared, but the hefty victories of Fizz Mace (27-13) and Sue Cooke (29-11) proved decisive for the home side, Alex Jacobs’ rink also clinching a victory.
