TROWBRIDGE golfer Steve Surry was teeing it up alongside major champions after earning the right to play in the Alfred Dunhill Championship, which started in South Africa yesterday.

Cumberwell Park touring pro Surry, 32, earned a spot in the 1.5 million euro event, which is co-sanctioned between souther Africa’s Sunshine Tour and the European Tour.

The tournament is the first on the European Tour’s 2015 Race to Dubai, which Rory McIlroy won this year.

The event is taking palce at the Leopard Creek Country Club, on the edge of the Kruger National Park, with the likes of former Ryder Cup stars Francesco Molinari and Niclas Fasth also in the field.

2010 Open champion Louis Oosthuizen was also hoping for success on home turf, while 2011 Masters champion Charl Schwartzel is hoping to become only the sixth player in European Tour history to win the same event in three successive years.
