TROWBRIDGE Town showed no signs of rustiness as they made light of more than a month without a game to run out impressive 3-1 winners at FC Chippenham Youth.

Jamie Mines put Town in front almost immediately from the kick-off at Hardenhuish Park but the home side drew level just before half-time.

An excellent Dan Fowler effort restored Trowbridge’s lead after the restart and they made the points safe ten minutes from time when a strike from distance deflected off Mines for his second goal of the game.

The victory was the Bees’ third in succession and continues their resurgence under new boss Keiran Baggs as they are now up to 11th in the table.

“It hasn’t been the ideal start with such a long break between games and that’s still only my fifth game, but you know going into the job at Trowbridge that fixtures can get called off,” said Baggs.

“It was a good win. We got what we deserved and I don’t think their manager can have many complaints about the result.

“We had a couple of debutants in Billy Robinson and Lee Collier as well and they both did great for us.

“Overall I’ve been very happy with the results. If we can keep that up we should start pulling ourselves towards where we want to be.”

Baggs will now prepare his troops for the small matter of this weekend’s derby at home to Trowbridge Wanderers, with Town eager to avenge a 2-1 defeat in the Corsham Print Cup back in October.

“It was a bit of a challenge to get a team together for the League Cup game but this is the league and there should be no excuses. The lads should all be up for it,” added Baggs.

Wanderers will also head into derby day on a high after romping to an impressive 3-0 win at home to Corsham Town Reserves.

The top-of-the-table clash between league leaders Ludgershall Sports and second-placed Melksham Town Reserves failed to live up to its billing as the two sides shared a goalless draw.

That allowed third-placed Devizes Town Reserve to close the gap at the top to just two points with a 2-1 success at Sarum Youth.

Malmesbury Victoria also remain in the title hunt and were the most impressive winners last weekend, racking up a 5-2 success on their trip to Wroughton.

Wilts Calne Town claimed a first win since October when they beat Supermarine Sports 5-3 at home.

Bottom side Westbury United Reserves were beaten 3-1 when they travelled to Shrewton United, Vale of Pewsey were 3-2 winners at Marlborough Town and Southbrook eased to a 4-0 success when they hosted Wootton Bassett Town Dev.
