PAUL Shanley says a red card for star striker Sam Jordan left a bit of a cloud over Bradford Town’s progression to the Wiltshire Cup semi-finals.

Jordan claimed Bradford’s second goal after a sublime opener from Steve Hulbert in Saturday’s last-eight clash at Wootton Bassett Town.

But top scorer Jordan then went from hero to zero as he was given his marching orders for two bookable offences in the second half.

Bradford boss Shanley said: “We set the tone in the first half. We got the goals at the right time.

“We rode our luck a bit in the second and our keeper made some good saves and they put another good chance over the bar.

“But we had chances to put the game to bed ourselves and the main objective was to get through to the next round.

“Steve’s was a really good goal from 25 yards and Sam got the second with a header just before half-time. They’d had a bit of pressure and that was a great time to score as it killed them off.

“The only disappointing thing was Sam’s sending off. It was two needless bookings.

“Once we were down to ten men they brought another forward on in an effort to get back into it. We battled on really well and dealt with the pressure they threw at us.”

Bradford resume their league programme on Saturday away at Longwell Green Sports.

Shanley is keen to better the 3-3 draw the sides shared at Trowbridge Road back in October.

“They’ve had mixed results since then, so it’s tough to call,” said Shanley.

“In the last game we were 3-1 up but they got back in it near the end, which was disappointing.

“It’s a tough place to go and they have been in the Premier Division for a few years now so are a good side.”
