WARMINSTER claimed their first Dorset & Wilts One South victory since the start of October and only second all season as they edged out mid-table Lytchett Minster at Folly Lane.

A fired-up home sideblitzed out of the starting blocks, scoring a try within the first five minutes.

Lytchett were penalised at a ruck in the centre of the field which Warminster kicked to touch.

From the resulting lineout, the amber and blues trundled up the field with a well-organised driving maul.

The charge got closer to the line and with the whitewash in sight, stand-in skipper Dean Priestman broke from the back and flopped over for the score.

Fly-half Gavin Pratt slotted the conversion to give the home side an early lead.

A stunned Lytchett soon rallied and began to use there bulky inside centre with direct running at the Warminster back line.

The McIntyre brothers Dan and Jack were up to the job though, thwarting his progress on a number of occasions.

Warminster’s defences eventually cracked when Lytchett scored from a well-organised blindside back row move.

Warminster were finding it difficult to gain any meaningful possession and the away side soon took the lead when a spell of pressure told as Warminster ran out of numbers in defence.

The score was converted and Lytchett led 12-7 at half time.

In the second half Warminster introduced flanker Alex Jenkins and his industry in the tackle area gave them more impetus.

Warminster regained the lead when, turning over Lytchett ball in their own half, the ball was shipped wide to winger James Pinnell who sprinted downfield evading two tackles in the process and dotting down for a superb score.

Pratt nailed the convesion, but the home side spurned two further opportunities when Pratt’s pass to full back Sam Couch was adjudged forward, as was Crouch’s himself to replacement winger Lewis Noble.

Warminster came under pressure late on but, with tighthead prop Steve Rowbotham making one excellent steal and Jenkins still prominent in the tackle, they held out.
