ANTHONY Ottavanio’s Bradford United have emerged as the clear favourites to deny Freshford United the chance of winning back-to-back Trowbridge Windows & Conservatories-sponsored Trowbridge & District League Division One titles.

After a draw with Freshford at the start of the month and last week's win against Castle Combe, Bradford’s title credentials were tested again, this time by North Bradley.

Once again Bradford’s never-say-die attitude saw them claim a 3-2 success that extended their lead to four points over Castle Combe.

Bradley were brilliant in the opening exchanges and once Jamie Young had given Ben Howe’s side the lead the villagers had Bradford penned in their own half.

But they were unable to add to Young’s effort in a half that Bradford grew into as it went on.

If Bradley had the better start in the first half it was Bradford who got off to a flyer in the second period, with Phil Little heading in a Richie Bliha free kick to restore parity.

Bradford then went close to taking the lead with only the woodwork denying Theo Sing.

With 15 minutes remaining Bradley regained the lead, Scott Askew turning the ball in following a goalmouth scramble.

Dan Jones, who came off the bench last weekend to earn Bradford victory over Combe, lived up to his super sub billing for a second successive game as the substitute curled a breathtaking strike into the top corner to level the scores for a second time.

It was Bradford who stole the points with just a minute left and it was Jones again who was their match winner.

Tom Bouquet's cross was flicked on by Phil Little and Jones side-footed into the roof of the net to earn Bradford a massive win over their title rivals Bradley, who will be looking for revenge when the teams meet in a fortnights time.

Defending champions Freshford United remain on course for back-to-back titles.

The villagers' latest victory of their six to date saw them beat a Trowbridge Town Reserves side, who played most of the second half with just 10 men through injuries 7-0.

Steve Roddy with three, Dave Percival’s double and singles for Tom Rooney and Ricky Trott made up the seven.

Semington Magpies, playing their first game in over a month can be forgiven, for showing signs off rustiness in their 6-2 loss at Hilperton United in a match that saw the hosts net all eight goals.

Dean Coles scored a three timer, Nathan Smith, Bradley Whitham and Jake Samuels were also on target for Hilperton.

Two Jason Rose own goals gave Magpies their consolation.
