TREVOR Rawlings said he never doubted Corsham Town would find a way to win Saturday’s tense clash at Chard Town.

Levi Cox’s second-half strike cancelled out Leigh Bailey’s opener for Chard but Corsham had to wait until five minutes from time to snatch all three points.

That came courtesy of a sublime strike from Keiron Gleed, who collected possession after an excellent team move before rifling into the top corner of the net from outside the box.

Corsham boss Rawlings said: “Both goals were good but the second one was pretty special.

“Keiron just curled one into the top corner from about 25 yards. A strike like that five minutes from time deserves to win any game.

“We changed a few things around in the latter stages but nothing really tactical as I felt the second goal was always going to come as we were so dominant.”

Rawlings felt Corsham were the better side throughout the match and was delighted with the response of his players following last weekend’s embarrassing 4-0 hammering at home to Hengrove Athletic.

“We weren’t too disappointed at half-time despite being 1-0 down,” said Rawlings.

“We’d played fairly well but just didn’t have that killer instinct. We could have easily come in 1-0 up instead.

“They scored just before half-time and after last Saturday we could have come in a bit negative.

“We just told the lads to keep doing what they were doing and we played some good stuff in the second half and deserved to win.

“There was only one team in it and I’m delighted with the way we played.

“It was a very young side and to go to a place like that and get a result is a very good effort.”

The win keeps Corsham sixth in the table and they now entertain second-placed Cribbs on Saturday.

Cribbs head to Southbank in flying form, having collected 34 of the last available 36 points in the league.

Rawlings said: “It’s another hard game for us as they are a very good side. They’re clearly the form team in the league.

“When we went there earlier in the season we lost 4-2 and we didn’t think that result was justified, so perhaps we will look to put that right.”
