PATCHED-UP Warminster were unable to follow up their derby victory against Westbury as they were comfortably defeated in Dorset.

The match started at a frantic pace with both sides visibly fatigued after the early exchanges.

But Warminster’s woe started at scrum time with Blandford dominating.

Matty Dunford, in an unfamiliar role of tighthead prop, battled gamely despite a shoulder injury that requires surgery next month.

Blandford began to take control and had secured the bonus point by half time courtesy of four tries.

Warminster managed to get on the scoresheet with the last play of the half, James Pinnell coming in from his wing to take a pass on halfway and stretch to dot the ball down despite being tackled just short.

The second half did not start well for the amber and blues when Blandford twice scored under the posts.

But, securing ball from a lineout just outside the Blandford 22, Warminster arguably scored the best try of the game.

A trusted backs move was executed precisely, with full-back Ed Read arriving in the line with perfect timing and drawing his man well to allow Pinnell into the corner for his second try.

Warminster scored their third try through centre Dan McIntyre, who broke clear from 15 metres out and showed good strength to get the ball down.

With just five minutes to go the amber and blues sniffed an opportunity of a bonus point for scoring four tries but instead, Blandford rounded off proceedings with a try of their own in the corner.
