NORTH Wilts Ladies are still well on course in their quest to win another women’s national inter-club team championship title.

Winners of the Yetton Trophy in 2008 and through to the fifth round and last 16 of this season’s competition, they produced another magnificent team performance last week, this time in the Vivienne Trophy.

Competing in the last 16 last Thursday, the North Wilts ladies side beat Isca IBC (Exeter, Devon) by 27 shots to run out comprehensive 86-59 winners and book a quarter-final place in the next round.

North Wilts only took the honours on two of the four rinks against Isca but those two winning margins were more than adequate to cover the two small losses of one and three shots.

Eriona Carpenter’s away rink registered a 21 shot success with Brenda Bowen’ home quartet winning by ten shots.

The ladies at North Wilts progress to round five (last eight) in the Vivienne Trophy and face Dorset side Dolphin (Poole) on February 5.

Meanwhile this Saturday (January 24, 11am), North Wilts meet Plymouth on the neutral green at Taunton Deane in round five (last 16) of the Yetton Trophy - the prize for the winners being a quarter-final tie versus Adur (Southwick, West Sussex) or Bournemouth on February 14.

WILTSHIRE men will be seeking revenge when they face the county women in the annual indoor showdown at North Wilts on Sunday (2pm).

After grabbing a last-gasp last end one-shot victory two years ago, the men were derailed totally last season.

The ladies romped to a comprehensive 49 shots victory as they thumped the men 148-99 and took the honours on five of the six rinks.

Twelve of last year’s triumphant ladies team return for this season’s showdown hoping to record another success against the men.
