TEN-MAN Corsham Town turned in a heroic performance to come from behind and beat high-flying Cribbs.

A Dave Gilroy penalty put Cribbs in front in the first half but Ben Moore’s strike ensured the two sides headed into the break level at the Southbank.

Corsham suffered a setback early in the second half when Sam Pring was sent off for a foul in the box, allowing Gilroy to put the visitors back in front from the penalty spot.

But a quickfire double from Levi Cox soon turned the game on its head and Corsham made the points safe when Matt Jenkins added a fourth goal late on.

Corsham boss Trevor Rawlings said: “I’m very pleased, it was a cracking result for us.

“The first half was quite even and there wasn’t a lot to choose between the sides.

“At half-time we felt the game was there to be won, but we just didn’t quite see how we were going to do it.

“I thought Sam’s challenge was clumsy rather than malicious so the red card was harsh, but when you’re 2-1 down with 10 men you think it is going to be one of those days.

“We kept going and Levi equalised and then got our third goal quite quickly.

“After that we changed it so we could hit them on the break and we looked the most likely to score again, which we did through Matty.

“The win was fully deserved. We were the better side with 10 men and I can’t recall any serious problems at the other end.”

The victory came at a cost, however, as Charlie Maddison, Callum Elms and Nick Chandler were all forced off injured.

Rawlings thinks only Maddison is likely to be fit for Saturday’s trip to Keynsham Town and is looking to bring in new faces to cover for the injuries.

He said: “With the players we already had injured it leaves us a bit thin and I have put in seven days approaches for a couple of players.

“That will strengthen the squad up but we’ll just have to wait and see. If we can’t do anything we will just have to go with what we’ve got.”
