WARMINSTER Town came away with a useful point after holding Chippenham Park to a goalless draw at Hardenhuish Park.

That was despite the visitors having to play with 10 men for more than half-an-hour after Alex Lapham was sent off early in the second half.

Warminster joint manager Derek Graham said: “We defended quite comfortably in the first half, forcing them into long shots, one of which Carl Crabtree tipped over.

“We created some good chances ourselves but their keeper was in a confident mood and made one particularly good save from Tom Golledge.

“At half-time we were confident of going onto win but early on Alex got a straight red.

“As he went to win the ball, his leg slipped on the muddy pitch and he went in with two feet. It looked awful and I understand the referee’s decision, but anyone who knows Laps knows he would not tackle like that on purpose.

“With 35 minutes to play with 10 men, we reverted to two banks of four with a lone striker. Although they had plenty of possession, they again only really had long shots, none of which really bothered Carl.

“We held on for a well deserved point, with everyone working their socks off.

“I think these young lads are starting to learn, and I am immensely proud of them.”

Warminster now travel to Wellington on Saturday.
