CHIPPENHAM Town's third back-to-back trip to the south west in ten days saw them go down 2-0 in Cornwall this evening.

It was not a happy night for the Bluebirds as Truro scored in each half, whilst Chippenham missed a penalty and were reduced to 10 men for the final few minutes when Greg Tindle received his second yellow card.

As they did a week ago at Poole, the Bluebirds conceded an early goal when Matt Wright gave the White Tigers a fifth-minute lead as he headed home a cross from Danny Greenslade.

Former Fulham man Barry Hayles then saw his shot deflected wide, whilst at the other end the Bluebirds’ Bryan Smith’s free kick was too high.

Before the break Chippenham thought they had equalised when Ashan Holgate headed home, but the goal was ruled out for an infringement.

After the interval Kent Kauppinen saved a free kick from Truro’s Ed Palmer, whilst a second free kick by the same player was deflected wide.

For Chippenham, Holgate headed wide of on-loan MK Dons keeper Charlie Burns’ goal.

Truro wrapped the game up a quarter of an hour from time when Palmer converted a penalty, awarded after Wright had been fouled in the box.

Chippenham then had a chance to get back in the game when they were awarded a spot kick of their own after a home player handled, but Burns saved Holgate’s kick.
