WITH third division leaders FC Box Steam Brewery in Knockout Cup action, the other title challengers Melksham Town A and Potterne FC, who started the day in third and second spot respectively, met in what was a defining game for both teams.

Melksham, who had to win to stay in the promotion battle, were hoping to do what no other team had done this season and that was to beat Craig Campbell’s side.

Unfortunately for Barry Holloway’s Melksham side they suffered a 4-1 loss which means that barring a major upset in their final two games Potterne who need just one point from those games will be crowned champions and Box Steam Brewery will claim the runners up spot.

Goals from Steven House and Tom Lye gave Potterne a 2-0 half-time lead.

Ashley Huntley added a third after the break and Dean Taccuso grabbed number four to seal victory before Callum Demkiv scored Melksham’s consolation.

Hilperton United Reserves entertained Zeals FC at Whaddon Lane in what was the final league outing of the campaign for both sides.

The visitors were looking to claim their first win of the season, but like their previous 15 matches their 16th ended in defeat as Roger Stevens' hosts claimed a 4-2 success in a game that saw both teams finish with 10 players after Jose Gualda (Zeals) and Aaron Burrows (Hilperton) received their marching orders in the second half.

Kieran Palmer’s goal put Hilperton in front and Dean Gumm as good as put the game to bed with a first-half double.

Zeals rallied in the second period and a goal from Pelly James reduced the arrears. Any thought a revival was short lived as Dean Gumm fired home a third to complete a hat-trick prior to Matt Carter scoring a second consolation for Zeals.
