Bedford bounces into national finals

8:15am Thursday 8th March 2007

TROWBRIDGE student Alex Bedford has qualified for the national grade one trampoline finals at his first attempt.

The Clarendon College pupil, aged 16, produced a dazzling display to finish sixth in the under 19s men's category at the grade one competition in Eastleigh on Saturday.

The result also places him sixth in the national under 19s standings, despite being three years younger than most of his fellow competitors.

Alex, a member of the Wiltshire and Somerset-based Evolution Trampoline Club, will now bounce at the national finals at Birmingham's National Indoor Arena in July.

Evolution team-mate Fiona Easton, from Frome, just missed out on a place in Birmingham after her second routine was marked down on a technicality.

Fiona's hair touched the safety mat during one of her final moves, which ultimately cost her a place in the finals.

Next to go was Olly Monro, who was also competing at grade one for the first time. Olly completed a solid first routine, but a small error prevented him from finishing his second routine.

Warminster's Adam Smith also competed for Evolution in Eastleigh. Adam scored well on both routines to cap a solid grade one debut.

Evolution head coach Sarah Hunt said: "I am really proud of all of the competitors, they all proved something to themselves and acquitted themselves well. I am over the moon for Alex as he has been working hard for several years to get to this point and he is finally reaping the benefits".

Evolution Trampoline club caters for all ages and abilities and if you would like further information please contact Sarah on 07877533999.
