WARMINSTER Town recovered from a slow first half to extend their unbeaten run to a fifth game with a 2-1 victory away at lowly Portishead Town on Tuesday night.

The visitors fell behind just before the interval but were in complete in control in the second period and goals from Bryan Smith and Louis Sparey turned the game around.

Warminster joint-manager Derek Graham said: “We had a bit of a nightmare getting over there. The traffic was awful and we didn’t get there until 7.05pm for a 7.30pm kick-off.

“Our first-half performance was not the best. They didn’t really trouble us but we were a bit disjointed.

“We thought we’d get to half-time and sort it out but then we went and conceded from a corner in the last minute.

“We spoke to the lads at the break and we dominated the second half. Both the goals we scored were superb from two really good team moves.

“It wasn’t our best performance in recent weeks but it was good enough.”

Sparey was also on target last Saturday as Warminster again came from behind to snatch a 1-1 draw at home to Hengrove Athletic.

Town have collected 10 points from four games this month, a run that has seen them pull themselves up the table.

Graham reckons his young side are starting to show more maturity and thinks it bodes well for next season.

“Things are picking up a bit,” said Graham, whose side travel to league leaders Barnstaple Town on Saturday.

“We used to win one week and then lose the next because the boys would think they had made it. Now they know they have to put that effort in every week.

“Hopefully we can keep this group together over the summer and start like this next season.”
