WESTBURY United fell to the foot of the table following a 2-1 defeat at Chard Town, with previous bottom side Portishead Town climbing above them after extending their unbeaten run to a sixth match.

The match encapsulated United’s season perfectly. They played good football and held their own for long periods but then gifted the opposition the advantage.

The pivotal moment came 15 minutes from time as Chard’s Sam Clark scored from the penalty spot after Ed Butcher had been upended by Nathan Hallett-Young.

Oscar Latas bundled home the opener for Chard just after the half-hour mark but Westbury equalised immediately in spectacular fashion as Gary Tugwell fired in from 40 yards.

The two teams were evenly matched until the costly penalty incident arose, and Chard were then able to make the points safe when Jamie Barfoot got a third goal from close range.
