WITH eight wins on the bounce Mike Rogers' AFC Melksham are undoubtedly the top flight's in-form team but unfortunately for Rogers' side their run of victories has come too late to make the serious S.K. Fruits Ltd-sponsored Chippenham & District League Premier Division title contenders.

However for the time being and thanks to a 5-2 victory at Westbury Rangers they sit top of the table.

Melksham went into the final game of the season on the back of an excellent 2-1 midweek success over former leaders Prestige Bodyworks and they were two up inside the first 10 minutes, Sean Fordham and then Jordan Kirk finding the net.

Josh Gardner celebrated his 17th birthday by pulling a goal back for Westbury, however a second for Kick gave Melksham a 3-1 interval lead.

Westbury made a promising start to the second half and reduced the arrears through Sam McQueen and for a short while they had the visitors to Meadow Lane a little worried, but normal service was resumed when Josh Robinson netted to put Melksham 4-2 ahead.

Any hopes Westbury may have had of causing an upset like they did on Thursday evening, when they beat Corsham Wildcats in the first of two games, was ended by Tony EcElhone, whose 13th goal of the season helped Melksham finish on a high.

Title hopefuls Corsham CC Wildcats had a mixed night on Thursday evening, playing two games against Westbury Rangers they lost the first meeting 2-1 before winning the second game by the same scoreline.

So their meeting with outgoing champions Castle FC was a must-win game for Frank Rogers' side if they were to keep the pressure on Prestige Bodyworks in their battle to become this term's top dogs.

Wildcats duly obliged by picking up all three points thanks to a 9-4 win. Adam Mitchell with two and Scott Fleming’s single cancelled out Alex Surman’s goal for the Castle.

Jack Fisher and two from Jamie Lawrence, one of which was a penalty made up the Castle’s four, but they counted for nothing as two more from Adam Mitchell which took his tally to four, Chay Forester, Joe King and a Sam Jordan brace made up Wildcats' tally.

Castle can now look forward to Sunday’s A M Print & Copy-sponsored Knockout Cup Final at Chippenham Town FC where they will be looking to avenge last season's defeat at the hands of Corsham Centre Youth as the two teams meet in a repeat of last seasons final.

The game kicks-off at 2pm.
