REF : GOLF : WILTSHIRE U14 GOLFERS EASTER TRIUMPH

The Wiltshire County Under 14 Team has played two matches over the last few weeks, home and away, and won both.

Wiltshire hosted Cornwall at Ogbourne Downs Golf Club and on a cold, blustery day. The Wiltshire team were victorious after a hard, up and down battle with the visitors.

The following week, Wiltshire played Dorset away at Canford Magna Golf Club and were once again victorious after a very tight, hard fought match.

This has followed a lot of hard work over the Winter and a comprehensive coaching programme at Cumberwell Golf Club under the watchful eye of England Boys Coach and Cumberwell Head Pro, John Jacobs.

Thanks goes to the Wiltshire County junior organizer and team managers, County President and County Secretary who have all worked together to organize the county squads, coaching and matches. The Team will play four more matches in the Summer, along with a number of county junior competitions.

Wiltshire County Under 14 Players : Josh Grobler, Dom Walter, Joe Retford, Freddie Titcombe, Josh Grey, Kyle Campbell, Ollie Jeans, Eddie Alexander, Harry Moule, Ben Wakeley, Bradley Smith, James Black, Sebastian James and Connor Askey.

GOLF SHOWS IT’S FOR ALL AGES!

In the year when it celebrates its 125th anniversary, North Wilts Golf Club is out to prove that golf is so much a game for all the family. In a field of 80 players, the Adult & Junior Open on Saturday 18 April featured 21 out of 40 junior golfers playing alongside parents, grandparents, aunts & uncles in a foursomes stableford.

And it was a father & daughter combination of Damien Hammond (East Berks) and Ella Hammond-Baveystock (Wentworth) who, on a sunny but extremely blustery & chilly day, won with 38 points. Home pairings of Paul Derbyshire with Ruari Gale and Tim Wootton with Brad Smith took second and third places with 36 points.

Age group prizes all went to North Wilts members - Harry Church (under 18), Jordan Rawlings (under 16) and Ciaran Murphy (under 14). The girls’ prize went to Toni Moxham.

The message that golf is a game for the whole family will continue when North Wilts brings practice nets for adults & children into Calne town centre on 27 June as part of the Calne Summer Festival & Carnival and holds a Family FUN Day at the club on Sunday 12 July which will be open to everyone of all ages.
