TROWBRIDGE’S Nick Blackwell reckons that he’ll have to strive to win every round of his showpiece clash with John Ryder to make his British middleweight title dream a reality.

‘Bang Bang’ Blackwell, 24, will take his third shot at winning the British belt on May 30 at London’s O2 Arena, with the bill televised live on Sky Sports Box Office.

As the away fighter on the Matchroom Sport show – Londoner Ryder is a Matchroom fighter – Blackwell is predicting that he’ll have to dominate in such a fashion that judges are unable to favour the home boxer if the contest comes down to fine margins.

“John Ryder is where it all starts for me. I want to get this British title and take it from there,” said Blackwell.

“I’ve got a lot riding on this fight. I’ve already lost two British title shots and I can’t afford to lose a third.

“I know I’ve got to beat him up badly as well because it’s on a Matchroom show and I won’t get any favours from the judges.

“I’ll have to either knock him out or beat him up badly for every single round. That’s what I plan to do.

“I’ve been really inactive my whole career, so it hasn’t been too frustrating sitting out the ring for six months waiting for this British title fight with John Ryder.

“In fact, it was only when I signed with my promoter, Mick Hennessy, that my career picked up and I had two fights in a couple of weeks.

“That was a real eye-opener for me. Suddenly I was active and not just someone who got a call last-minute to be an opponent.”
