ROYAL Wootton Bassett made it four wins from four with an emphatic 10-wicket rout of bottom side Beanacre & Melksham.

Bassett are now 18 points clear at the head of the table whilst beaten Beanacre are 10 points adrift at the foot of Division One.

On winning the toss, Bassett inserted the hosts and were soon in control as wickets fell at regular intervals.

Beanacre’s 105 all out off 42 overs was solely down to the disciplined bowling of all the Bassett attack, led by Asanka Vithange’s haul of 4-24 When the home side took to the field, they faced an uphill task, although had they held on to a couple of half-chances, the story may have been different.

Prolific openers Sam Lawro (46*) and Jack Twine (48*) looked untroubled throughout and saw Bassett to their target inside 21 overs.

Lacock were 40-run winners at Nationwide House. An impressive haul of 3-26 from Joe Perkins helped restrict Lacock to 192-9, for which Adam Mitchell’s 48 was the backbone.

Nationwide never got going in reply as although Nick Clarke provided stubborn resistance for his 46, the home side were only on 152-9 once their 45 overs came to a close.

Hinton Charterhouse went down to their first defeat of the season to near-neighbours Beckington by an agonising seven runs.

Charterhouse probably edged their opponents in every department except catching, where three outstanding efforts by New Zealand professional Josh Dwight and the crucial one from Rory Kelly to dismiss James Jacob just tipped the balance in hosts’ favour.

Kelly (54) and Dwight (35) made vital contributions with the bat for Beckington, the former figuring in an opening stand with Chris Weare (40).

Hinton fought back to restrict the score to 208-6, with the successful bowlers being Peter Borton (2-33) and John Newport (2-44).

In reply, Chris Antrobus and John Newport each made 38 before being dismissed by Kevin Restorick (4-37).

Thereafter, Hinton were always ahead, thanks to aggressive hitting from Elliot Taylor (22) and James Jacob (27), but were eventually dismissed for 201 with 20 balls remaining.

Division 2

MIKE Evans thumped 81 and claimed three wickets to help Wroughton Wranglers to a 38-run victory over Heytesbury & Sutton Veny.

Mark McMeeking also chipped in with 49 as Wranglers posted 208-7, which could have been a lot higher had it not been for R Barnes’ 5-38.

Barnes also hit a half-century in Heytesbury’s reply but Evans’ 3-32 helped skittle them all out for 170.

Division 3

BEEHIVE stung Seagry in dramatic fashion, edging to a slender 10-run success at home.

Mike Spong (20), James Hall (33) formed the backbone of Beehive’s 154-9, Mike Hunt with 4-34.

Seagry were 99-4 off 31 overs to put them in the driving seat but Gary Collins came into the attack and swung the game, picking up a wicket with his third ball and eventually finishing with 4-20.

Seagry still had an outside chance of victory but a run-out ended their chase 10 runs short.

Division 4

BEANACRE & Melksham 2nd were three-wicket winners away at Swindon B in a low-scoring affair.

On winning the toss, the visitors asked Swindon to bat and the bowlers produced a disciplined performance, especially youngster Dominic Shearn (5-31) on his senior debut. He was backed up by Tim Carpenter (4-47) as Swindon’s innings closed on 123 all out.

Beanacre decided to take things steadily on a difficult wicket as they began the run chase. This decision nearly back fired as they were reduced to 90-7 but they stuck at the task and an excellent 17* from Abi Footner finally saw them home.

Division 6

MIKE Reeves’ unbeaten 45 helped get Beehive 2nd back to winning ways with a five-wicket triumph over their Lacock counterparts.

Ady Day returned unbelievable figures of 3-1 as Lacock were bowled out for just 109 inside 30 overs.

Opener Reeves lost partners at regular intervals in Beehive’s reply but his resolute knock, supported well by I Mahany (30*), saw them reach their target on 112-5.

Division 7

CALNE 3rd got the better of their Westbury counterparts as they edged to a 37-run victory on the road.

The visitors won the toss and had no hesitation in electing to bat, with Tom Knight (59) the mainstay of the innings as they posted 205-9. Westbury’s Luke Dilena returned figures of 4-17.

In reply, Westbury were soon in trouble and Nick Watling’s valiant 62 was in vain as his team were dismissed for 168. Calne’s Lindsay Butler (3-42) was the pick of the attack.
