FC NORTH Wiltshire’s Dan Deacon pipped a clutch of players to claim the highly-coveted Gazette & Herald-sponsored player of the season accolade.

Deacon, who works as a postman, helped North Wilts deliver a seventh-placed finish in Division Two last term as he bagged 24 of their 66 goals.

His efforts throughout the campaign were duly noted by his opponents, who nominated him as his team’s player of the match in eight of he 16 league matches the played in.

“I didn’t really expect it but it’s obviously something I’m really pleased to get,” said 32-year-old Deacon.

“I think I played OK this season but I wouldn’t say it was anything special, I just tried my best whenever I was out there.

“As for the team it certainly wasn’t our best either, although we had lost a couple of players, which has made it a bit difficult.”

Deacon’s award-winning campaign may be his last in the league as a recent move to Bath may force him to ply his trade elsewhere.

“I’ve enjoyed playing but I’m not sure what I will do next season. It’s still a bit up in the air,” added Deacon.

“I’ve just moved to Bath so it won’t be as easy to get to games over in Chippenham.”
