CORSHAM got back to winning ways with an impressive 164-run victory away at Ilminster, thanks to a fruitful day with the bat.

Ashur Morrison’s men had not registered a win in the previous three weeks but produced close to their very best form in south Somerset.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Corsham skipper Morrison top-scored for his side with a fluent knock of 70.

Opener Steve Bullen had earlier seen the visitors off to a good start as he made 50, a score matched by Michael Coles later on in the innings.

The efforts of that trio helped Corsham post a more than defendable 264-7 by the time their 50 overs came to a close.

Harry Montacute, Richard Elswood and Sam Grinter all claimed two wickets apiece for Ilminster.

Corsham made a superb start when they got their hands on the ball and James Arney (2-28) and Dwain Fielding (1-17) removed Ilminster openers Louis Kraucamp and Jon Hurford respectively for single-figure scores.

The home side were always facing an uphill struggle after that and no batsman was able to score more than 15 as they were all out for 100 in the 29th over.

Tom Foley can take most of the plaudits for dismissing Ilminster so cheaply as he returned fabulous figures of 5-11, while Joseph King took 2-24.

Victory leaves Morrison’s men fourth in the Premier One table at the halfway point of the season, just three points behind second-placed Bath.

Next weekend, Corsham make the trip to third-from-bottom Downend.
