A RECORD field of more than 150 runners lined up on The Common in Broughton Gifford for the fifth running of the Great Chalfield 10K, organised by Stampede Sports.
The undulating 10-kilometre route is considered by many to be the most picturesque 10K course in Wiltshire, passing Stonar School, Holt Manor and Great Chalfield Manor before finishing back on The Common.
First around the certified accurate course was local Broughton Gifford resident George Gurney in an impressive time of 34 minutes and 42 seconds, ahead of Josh Taylor, from Team Bath, and Dominic Beddis, from Avon Valley Runners.
In the ladies race, Ruth Barnes ran an impressive 37.36 to finish in fourth place overall and set a new course record, ahead of defending champion Denise Grech, of Calne Running Club, with Kate Hails, of Avon Valley Runners, finishing in third place.
The race is expected to raise nearly £1000 for Broughton Gifford and Holt Scout Group.
The next Stampede Sports race is the Foxtrot 5 which takes place in Broughton Gifford on Sunday, August 23.
