WE HAVE had a bit of a mixed start in the Unicorns Championship so far this summer but a draw in the last game was a decent result.

Going down to Cornwall is never easy and we battled hard in the second innings and played some decent cricket.

In the end we only ended up with one point less from the game than them and they were top going into it.

There has always been decent fighting spirit in the team and that’s what won us the Western Division championship last year.

When we get ourselves into a bit of a mess we always seemed to bounce back and there’s been evidence of that again this year. The guys never stop trying. If they are positive and play their own game there is no reason why they can’t win any game.

Last year we won four games, we lost one and drew one, and this year we’ve won one, lost one and drawn one, so if we win the remaining three we will be in exactly the same position.

If we can put three wins together we are going to be up near where we were last year points-wise and that won us the championship.

It is just a case of making sure we perform well and put a good run together to finish off the season. We have got to go to Wales on Sunday and start that run off.

Wales can always be a tricky game and you never really know what you are going to get when you go over the bridge.

We have just got to go there and play like we did in the second innings at Cornwall and try to put a decent performance together which brings back a result.

We’ve made one change in the squad by bringing in Jack Mynott for Luke De Souza.

Jack has scored a number of runs in the Southern Premier League and ever since returning to South Wilts has been knocking on the door and been part of the squad for a couple of years.

Luke has had a decent run and, probably by his own admission, is batting a little bit out of position.

He likes to open the batting but is going in at three because Ed Kilbee and Uzi Qureshi are batting pretty well at the top of the order.

I am going to try something different and see how it goes. Luke will still remain part of the squad and we hope he goes away to his club and makes some runs and then comes back full of confidence.
