WESTBURY captain Alex Senneck is not getting carried away by his team’s recent run of good form, despite the Wiltshire Division title challenge sitting in their own hands.

Senneck’s side kept up the pressure on league leaders Trowbridge with a comfortable 70-run victory over Purton.

That win leaves Westbury, who have only lost three games all campaign, just eight points off the summit, with them still to play Trowbridge on Saturday, August 8.

“We’re on a decent run and that was halted by the Marlborough game, and then we have done pretty well to bounce back with two wins since then, with a decent performance against Purton on Saturday,” said the Westbury skipper.

“It is looking tight at the top, with a three-way situation between us, Trowbridge and Marlborough, and we have Trowbridge on August 8, which could be seminal.

“However, we need to make sure that win all the other games and not just focus on the game against Trowbridge in August.

“If we win all our games, we win the league, but what we can’t do is get carried away with ourselves and turn up on Saturday against Calne and win that.

“They might be bottom of the league, but they have one or two decent players and we have got to make sure that we are switched on and focused.”

After losing the toss and being put into bat, Westbury ensured that Purton regretted that decision as they set them a target of 234 as Richard Mills (60), alongside Jared McDonald (45), got the visitors off to a promising start.

But Purton’s run-chase never really got off the ground, with number seven Tom Whittaker (63) the only batsman to offer up any real resistance as the hosts were skittled 70 runs short, Richard Oakley taking 5-38.

Elsewhere, it was table-toppers Trowbridge who came out on top of the local derby with Winsley as they won by nine wickets.

Charlie Holton (39) top scored for the visitors, who won the toss and chose to bat, as they set their hosts a measly target of 118 to win.

Despite claiming the early wicket of Tom Oakley (9), Mike Reynolds (34*) and Andrea Agathangelou (66*) secured the comfortable win within 20 overs.

Winsley skipper Kevin Hendy has admitted that his team needs to start performing with the bat again after slipping into the bottom two, but says the team morale is still high.

“The mood of the camp is frustration,” he said.

“We don’t appear to be batting with any confidence at the moment and I can’t put my finger on the reason why.

“Nobody is shying away from their responsibility but at this point in time, we don’t seem able to buy a result.”
