DANNY Talbot admitted it was a case of missed opportunity after failing to maintain his recent good form at the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games in London.

Earlier this month Talbot, second at the British Championships, ran a new 200m personal best of 20.30 seconds in Switzerland to dip under the World Championships qualifying time for the first time.

He knew he needed another fast time at the Olympic Stadium on Friday to definitely book his spot on the plane to Beijing next month.

But it was not to be with as Talbot posted a time of 20.56 for sixth – fellow Brit Zharnel Hughes setting a new personal best of 20.05 for victory.

And Talbot cut a frustrated figure as he analysed his performance at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, with his world hopes in the balance.

“I'm fine but I'm not happy with the race. I ran my PB ten days ago. People are running PBs and SBs here so there's no excuse,” said Talbot, speaking at the event, a partnership with British Athletics that builds on Sainsbury’s support for the 2012 Paralympics and recognises that sport can unite and inspire children of all ages.

“I ran a lot faster ten days ago and it was a similar line up to that race. I was just too far down on where I was ten days ago.

“I’m going to have to look back at it with my coach (Dan Cossins). With the time I wanted I should have really been closer to the front.

“We’ve been doing a lot of training but haven’t quite sharpened up as much as I would like.

“Hopefully I’ll get a chance in Beijing because there’s still time to sharpen up, we’ll see.”

Three years ago, Talbot competed at London 2012 in the 4x100m relay although the team did not reach the final after failing to get the baton round.

And while disappointed with his performance on his return to the arena, the 24-year-old admitted he has still enjoyed reliving the memories.

“It’s amazing out here. I was lucky enough to be here at London 2012 but I haven’t been back since,” he added.

“Just driving here and coming into Stratford, you get the feel of what it was like and it’s great to be back.

“With the run I’m not overly pleased but it’s nice to be out there, it’s the first time I’ve done a 200 on this track.”
