DANNY Talbot’s nerve-jangling wait for the Great Britain selectors to make up their minds has ended in delight after the Trowbridge Tornado was this afternoon named in the British squad for next month’s World Championships in Beijing.
The 23-year-old was left sweating on selection after finishing sixth in the 200m final at last weekend’s Anniversary Games at London’s Olympic Park, with his time of 20.56 seconds outside British Athletics’ qualifying mark.
But Talbot, who ran a personal best 20.30 seconds in Luzern, Switzerland on July 14, has been picked alongside Zharnel Hughes as one of Britain’s two 200m representatives whilst the Wiltshire sprint star is also part of the 4x100m relay squad alongside Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, James Ellington, Adam Gemili, Richard Kilty and Chijindu Ujah.
The World Championships, which take place at the Beijing National Stadium, the venue of the 2008 Olympics, run from August 22-30.
