FOUR members of Westbury Wheelers Cycling Club are to take part in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 on Sunday.

More than 1,000 clubs affiliated to British Cycling applied for 400 places at the event, with Westbury one of those fortunate to be selected and Allen Laker (66), Damian Churchill (41), Gary Bendle (45) and Ian Bartlett (50) will now take on the challenge.

The team is looking good ahead of the event, although the lead up has not gone smoothly.

Bendle suffered a broken collarbone and was unable to work and ride for more than six weeks, losing some basic fitness but has shown on recent rides that he has now regained most of it.

Laker has had a couple of debilitating illnesses this year that left him feeling drained of energy but now appears to be fully recovered.

Bartlett will be on holiday celebrating his wedding anniversary before the race and will only return to the UK over the weekend, while Churchill has not ridden 100 miles before.

Club members Sharon Gover and Ian Jacques are also taking part, having been selected through the ballot.
