BIDDESTONE maintained the pressure on leaders Dumbleton with a 27-run success over Chippenham in the Glos/Wilts 2nd XI Division.

Robbie Foston (88) and Chris Casey helped the second-placed side to an impressive 263-5 from their 45 overs.

Despite Chippenham making a solid start to their reply, Biddestone managed to restrict the visitors to 236-6, with Jack Petitt stranded on 77.

Elsewhere in the division, Winsley crashed to a nine-wicket loss to Dumbleton and Marlborough lost by eight wickets to Rockhampton in a rain-affected game.

Corsham were washed away by Shapwick and Polden in Premier One on Saturday.

After seeing Steven Spencer hit 59 for the visitors as they posted 223-9, with Craig Chaplin (3-34) the pick of the Corsham bowlers, the hosts struggled with their reply.

By the time the rain arrived and forced an early end to the contest, Corsham were 96-7 after 25 overs.

Potterne suffered a 91-run defeat to Cheltenham in Premier Two.

The Gloucestershire side posted 232-8 from their allotted overs before the rain closed the Potterne innings with them 141-7, with John Bramwell unbeaten on 33, and behind the run-rate.

Meanwhile, Goatacre suffered a one-wicket loss to Weston-super-Mare in another rain-affected match and Warminster’s game at Chard was abandoned with the hosts unable to bat.

Burbage and Easton Royal suffered a blow in their bid for the Wiltshire Division title as they suffered a 71-run defeat to Purton.

Some loose bowling from the Burbage attack allowed Purton to post 219-6 from their 45 overs, despite Mark Style and Dan Swatton claiming two wickets apiece.

But Burbage never got going in their reply, with the top three batsmen scoring a total of 13 runs between them.

A 66 from Swatton gave them some slight hope, however, the only other Burbage batsman to reach double figures was Sam Wheeler (24) as they were dismissed for 148.

The loss means that Burbage will go to second-place Lechlade, who defeated Great Bedwyn on Saturday by 113 runs, with only a one point lead at the summit.
