CORSHAM captain Ashur Morrison admits that the rain came to their rescue at the weekend in their match with Clevedon.

The Somerset hosts dismissed Corsham for 180 with seven balls to spare, with only Morrison making a telling contribution as he top-scored with 67.

But with dark clouds on the horizon during Clevedon’s reply, the skipper hauled off his spinners and sent on his pace men to slow the over-rate down, with 25 overs required to constitute a game.

And when the rain came, the hosts were 97-4 after 19 overs.

“You could say that the rain came to our rescue,” Morrison said.

“I knew that the rain was coming and that you need 25 overs to get a game in.

“So I took the spinners off and put on the pace men.”

Morrison says that a victory in their final game of the season against Ilminster could see them move into third place in the table.

“At the start of the season, I said that I wanted to win seven matches and we have done that,” the Corsham skipper said.

“A win next Saturday could see us move into the top four and that will be a good achievement.

“Next year, we can push on and target the top two. We did the double over (second-placed) Bath and we were unfortunate in both the games we played against (champions) Frocester.”
