WARMINSTER Town may have been forced to work harder than even before but Derek Graham is nonetheless delighted to see his side joint-top of the Toolstation League First Division.

After winning four and drawing one of their opening five games, unbeaten Warminster are perched proudly at the top of the table, level on points with near neighbours Corsham Town with a game in hand.

Joint-manager Graham puts his team’s early renaissance down to his troops being a year older and a year wiser, as well as some key defensive reinforcements.

But the Weymouth Street boss is keen to keep their feet on the ground.

“What we don’t want is to go into games expecting to win,” said Graham.

“It’s great to see the lads starting so well but we’ve really had to fight and battle in every game.

“It’s been 2-1, 1-0, 1-1; they’ve all been really tight games and it’s not like we’ve stormed it.

“We’ve got a lot of young lads and I think they’ve all just got another year’s experience in this division.

“They know that they’ve got to battle in this league and they’re getting better because of that experience.’’ Graham added: “I also think that signing Josh Brigham and Dan Price in the centre of defence has been a big help.

“We don’t look like conceding many goals right now and a lot of that is because of that.

“We’ve also got a lot more strength-in-depth and it’s great to see this because we’re doing well, we get good crowds at home.

“There were 126 for the first game of the season and 101 in midweek.”

On Wednesday evening, Warminster racked up victory number four with a 1-0 win over Keynsham Town at home.

The decisive goal came as Lewis Graham and Charlie Walton combined to send Jack Miluk racing away down the flank.

Miluk crossed into the area and George Butler fired home to earn his team all three points.

Graham added: “We only seem to score goals like that at the moment.

“It’s good but you need to get some scruffy goals too.

“It was a good result because Keynsham have some good players.”

On Saturday, Warminster drew 1-1 at Oldland Abbotonians, Josh Brigham firing home a free-kick before fellow defender Dan Price diverted a long ball into his own net.
