WESTBURY United failed to get going as they fell to a 3-1 defeat at home to second-in-the-league Hengrove Athletic.

Hengrove dominated proceedings in the first half and held a three-goal lead going into the break courtesy of a headed brace from Asa White either side of a James Dunn strike.

It took Westbury 75 minutes to get into the match via the penalty spot when substitute Jordon Matthews was fouled by Scott Lewis and fellow substitute Mark Young fired home.

Despite having failed to score a point in their last six outings, manager James Goddard is not pushing any panic buttons yet.

“The points will come - I have no worries about that,” he said.

“We’re not worried this early on in the season.

“We knew it was going to be tough because they are quite high up in the league and are a good side.

“We didn’t really get going first half and we knew it was going to be a tough contest and they played some good stuff and by far looked the better side.

“I thought we came back into it in the second half, but they had too much class.

Westbury now travel to Devizes Town, who have already recorded a 3-2 victory at Meadow Lane this season, but Goddard says he cannot read too much into that game.

“I think we have got to write it off as one of those, because we are not expecting to beat teams that are in the top five,” added Goddard.

“Next Saturday is a big game for us. Obviously, we have already played Devizes, which is a bit odd, but I wasn’t in charge at the time so it is a bit hard to judge what happened.

“We have got to be going there and trying to win the game.”
