A POINT away to the then-league leaders is nothing to sniffed at but manager Nick Bunyard is certain that there’s still plenty of work to be done at Frome Town.

The Robins continued their recent revival under new boss Bunyard by holding local rivals Chippenham Town to a 1-1 draw at Hardenhuish Park on Tuesday night – the two teams’ third meeting in 18 days.

Despite a positive result, the Badgers Hill boss thought that his team were well below-par but takes that frustration as a mark of the progress Frome have made in such a short space of time.

“We knew that Chippenham were missing a few players and we thought they might have used up a lot of energy in their FA Cup game on Saturday, so we saw it as an opportunity to nick a win,” said Bunyard.

“On paper, a point at the team top of the league is a good result but I didn’t think that performance was very good – a draw was probably a fair result.

“But saying that, I saw some things from the players that I haven’t seen since I’ve come in as manager, which I saw in the way we came back from a goal down.

“I guess that shows how far we’ve come since I took over but there’s still a lot of work to be done.

“The players need to carry on getting used to how myself, Josh (Jeffries, assistant) and Matt (Bown, coach) do things and we still need to strengthen the squad.”

Former Frome man Matt Smith put Chippenham ahead, the midfielder firing in after Matt Jones’ strike cannoned off the crossbar but in the 77th minute, Rob Hobbs headed home from Jack Hutchings’ cross to level things up.

Bunyard revealed that the Robins have made a seven-day approach for Bluebirds defender Jon Beeden whilst they are also in for Paulton Rovers’ Shane Anson, but the Frome manager expects to lose out to Cirencester Town.

The Robins face table-topping opposition yet again this weekend when they host Leamington, who leapfrogged Chippenham to the top of the pile on Tuesday.
