HAVING already suffered a 2-0 defeat against the Castle FC, defending Shoestrings Chargrill-sponsored Chippenham & District League Premier Division champions Corsham CC Wildcats would have been wary of facing Nathan Emm’s side for a second time in a fortnight.

But they put their previous loss behind them and an excellent all-round team performance saw them run out 5-0 winners.

Darrin Moss gave the Wildcats the lead and a double from Adam Mitchell put them 3-0 up at the break. Second-half goals for Lewis McCarron and Dan Sibley sealed their resounding win.

AFC Melksham were in seventh heaven at home to Cons FC. Mike Rogers' side returned to action with a 7-0 win over Leighton Joyce side, who started the day in third place in the standings.

Melksham were 5-0 up at the break and were always in charge of things. Sean Fordham bagged a hat-trick, Josh Robinson scored twice and singles from Jordan Kirk and James Dark made up their tally.

Early leaders The Pack Horse were made to work hard at Melksham Cosmos before claiming a third straight win of the season.

Tyrone Prades' side, who won 2-1, should have been out of sight at the break but all they had to show for their efforts were goals from Adam O’Keeffe who struck a stunning 35 yarder and a tap in from Alex Pring.

A penalty from Ashley Barnett just before half time kept Cosmos in the game and although Pack Horse had a host of chances to increase their lead, it was Cosmos who came good late on and had chances of their own to steal a points from the game.

Thirteen proved to be an unlucky number for Westbury Rangers as they were beaten 13-2 by a Potterne outfit who after losing their opening two games in the top flight have won back-to-back games.

Neil Clark, who was later to go to hospital injured, got Potterne’s first. Ben Mason, Tom Lye with three and a Ben House strike gave them a 6-0 lead at the turnaround.

Ben House completed his hat-trick with two more in the second half, Tom Lye netted another three to take his tally to six.

Lee Himsworth and Lee Sanders made up the 13. Marc Lanfear and Paul Ranger from the penalty spot were Rangers' scorers.

A fine team performance by Sam Parish’s Goatacre CC FC saw them return home with a deserved 3-1 win away at White Horse A FC, and with it ended a disappointing run against their opponents that hadn’t seen them victorious since December 2012.

A hotly-fought encounter, that at times threatened to boil over, saw the visitors make the most of a lacklustre first half performance by the hosts.

Matt Morgan’s goal on 20 minutes was just reward for the villagers’ endeavours and, had it not been for a string of good saves by Andy Ladd in the Horse goal, the scoreline could have been much worse for the home side at that point.

Horse’s frailties continued to be exposed and it was no surprise that they found themselves two adrift at the break, Alex Lewis heading home powerfully from a corner just three minutes before the half-time whistle.

The home side finally raised their game in the second period and a much more even half saw them reduce the arrears on the hour, Pete Ayton heading home Dale Rowland’s cross.

However, despite their best efforts they found the Goatacre defence at it’s resolute best, and it was the visitors that rounded proceedings off in the dying embers of the game, Matt Smart beating the offside trap and finding the net to record a worthy win for his side over their Westbury rivals.
