GOALKEEPER Paul White was sent off on his Frome Town debut as Frome Town were thumped at Biggleswade Town on Saturday.

White, who has joined Nick Bunyard’s men on a month’s loan from National League giants Forest Green Rovers to cover for injured Frome stopper Darren Chitty, suffered a first appearance to forget as he was shown a controversial red card in Bedfordshire, which inspired the home side to net three times in the second period.

The Robins began on the front foot and they had the first chance on the 11th minute as a Kris Miller free-kick was headed just wide by Ollie Knowles at the near post, and four minutes later, Frome went close again as a long clearance from White was headed on by Lewis Haldane to Darren Jefferies, whose near-post effort was just turned behind for a corner.

Haldane let fly from 25 yards, forcing James Herd into a save, before Biggleswade threatened in the 36th minute as a shot from Lewis Hilliard hammered into the chest of Jordy Nkunga and as the ball broke to Craig Daniel, his shot was just deflected away by Sam Teale.

Two minutes later, the game changed dramatically as White accelerated out to superbly block a shot from a Biggleswade forward, but as his momentum took him outside the penalty area, he was left gobsmacked after the referee produced a straight red card for handling outside the area.

Defender Teale took over in goal and did well to deal with the resulting free-kick from Shane Hill as the game remained goalless through to half-time.

Frome had a great chance to open the scoring in the 58th minute as Jordan Walker released Haldane, who beat his defender but just blazed slightly high from the edge of the box, but two minutes later, Biggleswade netted as Ian Rees let fly with a 30-yard daisy-cutter, which bobbled past Teale and ended up in the back of the net.

Biggleswade scored another eight minutes later as Daniel took advantage of Frome’s stand-in keeper to score from 35 yards with a speculative lob and despite substitute Josh Jeffries hammering a cross from Nkunga just wide in the 82nd minute, Frome never really looked like overcoming the disadvantage of having ten men and no natural keeper.

Biggleswade made it 3-0 in the 90th minute as a move involving Ryan Blackman, Mark Coulson and Rees resulted in a ball being played into the path of Tony Burnett , who beat Teale from close-range.
