A BROKEN leg for Melksham flanker Ollie Cooper overshadowed their 26-5 win at Trowbridge 2nd in Dorset & Wilts 1 North.

Man of the match Dave Dyke marked his return by opening the scoring with a powerful run after a lineout in the Trowbridge half.

A strong forwards battle then resulted in Nick Suter breaking through for a try, converted by Gareth Evans.

Matt Glover was next to strike before good teamwork produced another try as Callum Gillard outpaced the home defenders, Evans converting both scores.

The home team retaliated and piled on the pressure to camp on the visitors’ line but failed to turn this into points as Melksham held on to end the half 26-0 to the good.

Three yellow cards were shown to Trowbridge during the game, and although a couple of kicks pushed Melksham further ahead, the home side never gave up and got on the scoreboard after winning a scrum on the visiting line before pushing over for a try.

Melksham skipper Callum Hurn said: “It was sad to lose Ollie and all the team wish him a speedy recovery."
