CHIPPENHAM Town had to wade through the perils of M25 traffic to record their second win of the week.

Despite turning up late and a delayed kick-off, Mark Collier's side were able to complete a 1-0 victory against Biggleswade Town on Tuesday night to keep the pressure on the play-off places.

After a sluggish start the Bluebirds soon found their rhythm and took the lead just after the half-hour mark when they capitalised on a sustained period of pressure.

Scott Bevan saw his effort from distance saved but it could only be parried to the feet of Ashan Holgate who rolled the ball to Andy Sandell to score inside the six-yard-box.

“It was a long trek on a Tuesday night and we were delayed due to an accident on the M25 so the kick-off was put back to 8pm," said Collier.

“That affects a few things and it was all a bit of a rush.

“They started the game quite strongly, then we got a foothold in the game after about 10 minutes and we were absolutely outstanding in the first half – as good as we have played so far this season.

“We were disappointed when half time came because we were right on top of the game and looked like scoring more.

“We asked for more of the same in the second half but they changed things around and pressed us a little bit quicker.

“They did have one fantastic chance when Kent (Kauppinen) has pulled off an absolutely world class save and it is as good a save as any of us have seen.

“He has kept the score at 1-0 and we have seen the game out very well to get a big three points for us.”

Town now prepare for a home meeting with Dunstable Town but will be checking on the fitness of a few key players after Tuesday night.

Chris Allen was forced off after 20 minutes with a tight hamstring, while Holgate suffered a ligament injury to his right knee and Alex Ferguson was brought off 10 minutes into the second half as he continues his return.

"They are another form side," added Collier.

"I know they lost last night but we know it is going to be a difficult game but we're on the back of two victories.

"Back-to-back wins is good but if we can take three wins then is sets us up very nicely for the December period."

Chippenham were drawn against Merthyr Town in the Red Insure Cup third round yesterday but Collier is not letting that distract the side.

“At this moment our focus lies towards our league points," he said.
